The Lanterns, Bridport
Nominated in the Residential Window or Glass Project Over $80,000 category of the 2026 AGWA Design and Industry Awards, The Lanterns is a striking accommodation project in the seaside village of Bridport. Built three metres into the ground, its three distinctive forms rise from the site like Chinese lanterns. Titane Windows and Doors was engaged to deliver a high-performance glazing solution suited to the area’s highly corrosive coastal environment.
The design called for functionality, corrosion resistance, passive solar performance and acoustic comfort, without compromising the expansive Bridport water views. Kömmerling C70 and PremiLine uPVC double-glazed systems were selected to meet these requirements. Large floor-to-ceiling PremiLine sliding doors open the master bedrooms and living spaces to the outlook, complemented by Juliet-style balconies. With U-values of 2.10 and an acoustic rating of Rw34, the glazing helps provide guests with a comfortable, cosy and quiet environment.
The buildings were designed to require minimal heating and cooling. Clear, full-height glazing captures the all-day sun to naturally warm the interiors, while cross-flow ventilation provides a steady cooling breeze during the warmer months. The thermal insulation, UV resistance and durability of the uPVC systems also support long-term energy efficiency and reduced maintenance.
Two bespoke glass features further distinguish the project. Natural light reaches the basement whisky bars through trafficable skylights made from 13.52 mm heat-strengthened laminated glass. Titane designed engineered, fabricated and welded aluminium box-section frames to support the structurally glazed panels. On the rooftop entertainment decks, 12 mm Decor-Satin toughened glass balustrades provide privacy and weather protection. At night, the backlit glass creates a striking perimeter of white light around each deck.
Installation required careful planning across the three-level steel structure, which was fully enclosed by scaffolding with limited working space. Titane’s installation team worked closely with BHA Construction’s carpentry team to crane-lift the window and door frames, followed by the double-glazed units, into the upper levels. The result is a safe, compliant and carefully executed glazing package that combines memorable architecture with coastal durability, energy efficiency and guest comfort.
